NALSU associates Dr. Laura Alfers and Professor Michael Rogan recently published a policy brief through their affiliation with WIEGO (Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing) and in collaboration with UNWomen’s South African country office. The policy brief outlines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on South Africa’s informal economy and focuses particularly on women’s informal employment.

The Daily Maverick has recently published an article profiling the key findings and recommendations from the policy brief. Laura is Director of WIEGO’s Social Protection Programme and Michael has been a Research Associate with WIEGO’s Urban Policies programme since 2011. WIEGO is a global research advocacy network that works with organisations of informal workers in over 40 countries.
