  • Mr. Shaka Bob, a NALSU masters bursary recipient, was awarded a cum laude for his thesis on decent work in the Zimbabwean informal economy. He will be graduating in the October graduation and was supervised by M. Rogan and L. Alfers.
  • Ms. Reesha Kara is the first NALSU PhD bursary recipient to be awarded a doctorate. Ms. Kara undertook a mixed-method thesis on trends in non-marital fertility in South Africa and examined the key demographic, socio-economic and labour market characteristics of fertility in the post-apartheid period. She was fully funded through a NALSU PhD bursary throughout her studies and will graduate at the October ceremony. She was supervised by M. Rogan.
  • Relatedly, Dr Reesha Kara is the first NRF-funded post-doctoral fellow to be hosted by NALSU. Dr. Kara applied for the post-doctoral fellowship through NALSU and with M. Rogan as her nominated supervisor. She will be examining some additional research questions raised by her PhD thesis and will be publishing from her thesis while contributing to several NALSU research projects.
