Lucky Mosia-Xaba, affectionately known to the Rhodes University community as Ma’am Lucky is a Professional Librarian serving the Faculty of Humanities and Education. She began her journey at Rhodes University in 2011 as the Faculty Law Librarian.
In addition to her professional role, Ma’am Lucky has been an active and dedicated Warden since 2019, initially at Allan Webb Hall – Canterbury Annex House. In 2025, she moved to Solomon Mahlangu Hall, where she serves as Residence Head at Robert Sobukwe House.
Driven by a passion for teaching, she is involved in delivering Academic Literacy and Information Literacy for Library Instruction. Her work is guided by a deep commitment to the academic and personal development of all students, with a strong belief in the potential of every African child.
Ma’am Lucky also leads the community engagement initiative, Siyafundisana eMakhanda, a reading literacy project that promotes establishing and using classroom libraries in local schools.
The Assistant Residence Head of Robert Sobukwe House is Miss Deandra Goddard. As an Assistant Residence Head, she is dedicated to fostering a supportive and well-managed living environment. She assists in overseeing student welfare, discipline, and the maintenance of the residence and its assets.
Currently pursuing a master’s degree in Biochemistry at Rhodes University, Deandra brings a strong sense of organization, problem-solving, and leadership to her role. She is approachable and committed to helping students navigate both academic and personal challenges. With an open-door policy, she encourages students to reach out—whether they need advice, support, or just a friendly conversation.
