The club took part in the Eastern Cape student  chess League. Rhodes A claimed the Gold medal in A section with 8 Wins, 1, Draw and 1 Loss .This included Wins over University of Fort Hare A and B teams Who were the favourite to win the league. Lucas Mnguni (captain ) and Lindokuhle Mqadi claimed the prizes of being the best players in the league.The RHODES A Team included :

Ntando Mkhwanazi (reserve).
The RHODES B team claimed 4th position. Section B of league saw RHODES Claim a bronze medal after a tough season where they had player shortages. Asimanye Dudumayo claimed one of the prizes of being the best players in the tournament.
The league was held of 3 legs where each team played 10 matches. The first leg was held at Rhodes, Second leg was held at UFH Alice and the Third leg was held at WSU Komani.
