Earth Hour 2009 Initiative

Dear Staff and Students of Rhodes University,

Earth Hour 2009 is a global initiative by the World Wide Fund for Nature which acts as a worldwide call to action to every individual,
business and community to take a stand against Climate Change.

Rhodes University as an institution believes in caring for our communities and for our environment. We therefore would like to
encourage members of the Rhodes Community to show their support by signing up at http://www.earthhour.org.za/sign_up.php and commit to switching off your lights for one hour on Saturday, March 28th at 8:30pm.

Doing so means your name will be added to the global petition in support of the Climate Change Legislation earmarked for the critical
Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen at the end of 2009.

The University public areas such as: the computer labs, the library and the pathways around the campus will continue to have lights at the prescribed time. This is to maintain the safety of our University Community who utilise these public areas.

Rhodes University Senior Management encourages you to participate individually in this endeavour.
