Penalty: Exclusion for one year suspended for duration of student’s time at RU on condition that accused is not convicted of a similar offence, 75 hours compulsory service and a compensation order to be paid to the victims in the amount of R31.00.

Charged with assault to do grievous bodily harm. Found guilty on the competent verdict of assault. Penalty: Exclusion for one year suspended for duration of student’s time at RU on condition that accused is not convicted of a similar offence plus 80 hours compulsory service. Matter taken on review and penalty substituted by exclusion for two years suspended for duration of student’s time at RU on condition that accused is not convicted of a similar offence plus 80 hours compulsory service.

Charged with the common law crime of crimen iniuria. Found guilty. Penalty: 40 hours compulsory service.

Charged with three counts of theft, two counts of housebreaking with intent to commit a crime and malicious damage to property. Found guilty on two counts of theft, one count of the theft on the competent verdict of receiving stolen property knowing it to be stolen, two counts of housebreaking with intent to commit a crime and malicious damage to property. Penalty: Permanent exclusion from all University residences, exclusion for one year and any credits obtained at any other university will not be recognized by Rhodes and endorsement of academic record to reflect “conduct unsatisfactory”.

Charged with two counts of theft, two counts of malicious damage to property and housebreaking with intent to commit a crime. Found guilty on two counts of theft and housebreaking with intent to commit a crime. Acquitted on two counts of malicious damage to property. Penalty: Permanent exclusion from all University residences, exclusion for the remainder of 2011 and endorsement of academic record to reflect “conduct unsatisfactory”.

PENDING CASE

Charged with two counts of theft and two counts of fraud. The matter is part heard. The hearing convened on 29 September 2011, 12 October 2011, 19 October 2011, 21 October 2011, 29 November 2011, 30 November 2011 and 8 December 2011. The matter has been postponed to 16 January 2012.
