RHODES University cruised past the Border Bulldogs Academy with a 31-10 win at the University of Fort Hare Alice campus on Friday.
Rhodes scored first from a Jonty Rawlins penalty. Justin McDougall stole a Border lineout leading to a Chris White try under the post. Rawlins converted to make it 10-0.
Rhodes continued to dazzle when a long, floated pass from Matt King to Rawlins saw Siviwe Gushu through unopposed for another converted try.
It was followed by a Ben Davies try, also converted. Border's Anda Nanto went over against the run of play to cut the lead to 24-5 at the half.
Rhodes took a 31-5 lead when Rawlins burrowed under a few Border defenders to score and then converted.
Border got a consolation try when they stole the ball off a Rhodes maul and sent it to Ayavuya Mavuso to dive over. It stayed 31-10 after a missed conversion.
