The 2021 Student Representative Council assumes office.
The SRC of 2021 would like to formally extend compliments of the New Year to students and staff members of Rhodes University. As we assume office, with the understanding of what a difficult year 2020 was. The outbreak of the coronavirus has introduced a new normal to us all. Therefore we acknowledge the various difficulties that students might have experienced, such as the inability to smoothly transition and participate in remote learning. We hope our dedication to proactive leadership will allow us to heed the cries of students.

The SRC submits a letter of demands to the Vice Chancellor.
The University has not been transparent with the student body regarding the measures taken to mitigate the challenges presented by NSFAS. Structures of the University have also not been efficient in communicating with the SRC. This has caused justified frustration within the student body. The academic year resumes in 2 days and their stance of “business as usual” is a complete disregard of the impediments that prevent students from engaging in their academic activities.

The success of the #RUASENZINEX movement.
There have been developments to our demands which include but are not limited to: 1. Living allowances have been in the process of being issued out. 2. Emergency accommodation for first time entering students (FTENS) was extended. This comes after we requested that the University allows FTENS to reside in their emergency accommodation even after the given 48 hours. 3. We proposed to the University that International Students should receive data for academic purposes or permits to return to campus. Thus far, over 250 permits have been issued for International students. 4. The start of assessments which counts for marks has been delayed.
