Jackey is a biological control researcher working to manage invasive species - a major threat to ecosystems, biodiversity and livelihoods.
“I’m excited about science communication because I get to not only reach fellow scientists, but the general public as a whole, after all they are the main target for the research that we do,” he says.
He now moves on to the FameLab SA semi-finals, where he’ll represent Rhodes University and share his story with audiences across the country. The young scientist will also have the opportunity to represent South Africa at the international final.
Big congratulations to the runners-up – Lungelihle Dlamini and Luyolo Ndubela.
