Up-date on the International Society of Critical Health Psychology (ISCHP) 9th Biennial Conference

12-15 July 2015, Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa

 

Community site visits: We are pleased to announce that we have confirmed the following excursions to take place on the last day of the conference:

Ubunye Foundation – take a tour of theMgcamabele Community Centre on Kwandwe Private Game Reserve and learn about their Family Health Programme.

Upstart Youth Development Project – this programme is based in Joza; find out more about the Upstarters who have produced community newspapers and short films that have enabled them to become agents of change within their communities.

Keiskamma Trust, Hamburg, Eastern Cape – situated on the Keiskamma river mouth, this community project has health, art, education and music programmes that aim to support local impoverished communities. Learn about their latest initiatives.

Fort England Psychiatric Hospital – from a military barracks to colonial lunatic asylum to psychiatric hospital; take an interactive walk to learn about the history of this institution and the current programmes that it offers its patients.

The ISCHP brings together health scholars who are interested in exploring ongoing and emerging issues in critical research, critical theory and critical practice in relation to health and health care. This shared interest in critical approaches to healthcare is exemplified in the theme of the 9th Biennial Conference, ‘Health, Health Care and Social Justice’.

Abstracts:The call for abstracts for the 9th Biennial Conference of the International Society of Critical Health Psychology (ISCHP) is open. The final deadline for abstract submissions is 02 March 2015.
