You are invited to join #Grahamstown Against Gender Based Violence March. The march will start at two points Rhodes community and Grahamstown West to meet and march from under the Rhodes University Arch and Grahamstown East community from the Joza Youth Hub, both parties will march to Fingo Square for a short programme from 10:00 – 12:00.
The March aims to raise awareness against Gender Based Violence in our community and nationally, following the many occurrences of Gender Based Violence that have been reported and covered in the media. The march seeks to remember victims of GBV like Karabo, Kwezi, Lelona Fufu, Boitumelo Manyadioane, Amanda Tweyi, Noluvuyo Swelindawo and many stories of the LGBTQIA, including many others in our community whose stories were not told. The march aims to express the community’s support for the 6 point Plan put forward by the Minister of Police, with additions and recommendations.
At the march, the gathering will be addressed by Representatives from SAPS, Social Development and the Department of Health, on the different procedures in place to deal with cases of Gender Based Violence, followed by a Q &A session.
