Residence Managers are responsible to the Hall Manager for the welfare and discipline of the students in the Houses and for the maintenance of the fabric of his house and its moveable assets.

Gladman (Glad) Thondhlana is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Environmental Science. He completed his PhD in Environmental Science at Rhodes University in 2012. His wardening experience began in 2014. He believes residences are not just a place to stay while studying but a place to live for students. Borrowing from the Greek philosopher, Plutarch – Glad believes that students’ minds are not empty vessels to be filled but fires to be ignited. Thus, residences should contribute towards the development of an academic environment that promotes critical, rigorous and constructive debate, intellectual success, responsible behaviour, active and critical citizenry, and socialisation. During his free time Glad enjoys working out and gardening.
