Ilana is a multifaceted librarian with knowledge and experience in the fields of music, library science,
and education. With a passion for learning, Ilana has dedicated herself to academic pursuits, lifelong
learning and fostering this passion in others.


Ilana's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Music (Hons) degree from Rhodes University. During
this time, she also achieved the R.U. Licentiate in violin teaching. Ilana pursued a Postgraduate Diploma
in Library Science from UNISA, to enhance her skills and knowledge in the field of library management.
Ilana has just completed her MMus degree in music education.


In her professional career, Ilana has pursued various jobs in educational and library settings. As an
Assistant Librarian at the Rhodes University Sound Library, she engages with students on a daily basis,
offering guidance and assistance in their academic pursuits. Having worked as an ACE EE Tutor at the
Environmental Learning & Research Centre at Rhodes University, providing academic support to
students, particularly second language English speakers and playing an important role in helping
students improve their academic writing and research skills. She applies this background to her current
job in the Sound Library.


Ilana teaches violin, both privately and at the Access Music Project in Makhanda, as well consistently
working on developing her own violin skills and playing in the Makhanda Community Orchestra. She also
assists with ensemble exams within the department by playing in ensembles with various students.
