Jenny studied clarinet in Bloemfontein at the UFS under Heinrich Armer, where she did her BMus, BMus Hons and UVLM (UNISA). During that time she played in the PACOFS orchestra, was category winner of the Forté Music Competition, winner of the yearly UFS Music Prize and played for the Unisa Licentiate bursary for overseas studies. She was a member of the Free State Youth Orchestra, and of SANYO from 1986-1989. After her studies she taught at the College for the Arts in Windhoek for 12 years, where she was the principal clarinettist in the NNSO. In 2001 she went back to Bloemfontein where she taught at the Musicon, and was principal in the FSSO and since Jan 2010 she has a teaching position at Kingswood College (Grahamstown) teaching clarinet and saxophone, as well as part time teaching at Rhodes University. She plays regularly in chamber music concerts and in the ECPO, and adjudicates for Eisteddfods as well as the UNISA Gr 8 bursary competition in 2013. In 2022 she formed Cape Reeds Quintet, consisting of 5 professional clarinettists from the Eastern and Western Cape.
