    My name is Chwayita Macanda and I am from King William’s Town. I have just completed my undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Social Science. This year I am pursuing an honours degree in Sociology (Developmental Studies), I chose to do Developmental Studies because South Africa needs many young people to help develop this country and also this field provides many opportunities that opens up doors to working with NGO’s and many Governmental organisations. My research will explore the feasibility of introducing academic programs at Rhodes University irrespective of student’s academic/educational and socio-economic background. The reason I chose this topic for my research is because many institutions do not provide the right kind of support for students and sometimes students drop out because they cannot cope with academic pressure. Hence it was in my interest to investigate and explore the kinds of academic programs that would give students the right skills to thrive academically.
