Nanashaitu Aduke Umoru-Oke

Nanashaitu Umoru-Oke (PhD) is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Fine & Applied Arts, Obafemi Awolowo University Ilé-Ifè Nigeria. Her research concentrates mostly on the understanding of various dimensions in the developmental history of traditional Yoruba pottery making; with particular emphasis on continuity and change in indigenous pottery tradition. Emphasis is laid particularly on indigenous potters and their pottery; biographies, confined perceptions; mode of practice and stylistic approaches to pot making in Yoruba culture; material, technique, form and motif. Aishat has to her credit 19 published articles in journals, books and referred conference proceedings.

As an artist (potter) her practical application of theory in the production of creative works such as theme based assemblage pots, mosaic and plaques have impacted on the works of her students. Aishat is currently the Acting Head of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
