Saba Marzban wins Engaged student researcher of the year award at 2013 RUCE awards.

Saba Marzban’s research is around TB and health promotion. She focused on how TB is transmitted, the signs and symptoms of TB, differences between “ordinary” pulmonary TB and MDR-TB and the importance of adherence to TB medication. While researching the transmission of TB, Saba was also interested in innovative ways of sharing this knowledge. Through active engagement; she undertook to educate Grade 7 learners about Tuberculosis (TB) by designing fun ways to transfer information on this important topic. Saba also developed a questionnaire to determine the learners’ basic knowledge of TB before participating in the activities and the same questionnaire was used to test TB knowledge after participating in the activities. This project was not only about information transfer but it also encouraged learners to take play an active role in learning about their health and take action.
