Leboghang Nkambule, a Political and International Studies honours student, joins the Community
Engagement dream team in 2020. Bringing heaps of passion and enthusiasm to CE, Lebo will be representing
the SRC and serving as the voice of the student body by initiating, sustaining and co-ordinating SRC community
engagement programmes.
Ensuring that the principles of CE are firmly embedded in student activities is key to Lebo’s role and as a
representative of the student council, she has the responsibility of making sure the SRC’s vision is in line with the
global Sustainable Development Goals.
“I have always been passionate redressing socio-economic issues in society as I come from a very
disadvantaged community with many issues that need to be addressed, making social justice a key part of my
life,” says Lebo.
As a student, Lebo was involved with Budding Q which complimented her love for working with children,
especially Grade R learners. “The impact that we make in the lives of young people and more for me it’s seeing
many of the learners that I’ve mentored coming to Rhodes and being mentors themselves,” she says.
Community Engagement welcomes Lebo and is looking forward to enriching its relationship with SRC and the
student body.
