JMS students attended career workshops last week (9 & 10 March). The workshops were co-presented by Jolandi Snyders and Jurgen Kietzmann, new head of Rhodes Career Centre who encouraged the students to take ownership of their own careers and make use of every opportunity that comes their way. “Be willing to do something to develop yourself…everything you do is a stepping stone towards your dream job. Do not get left behind on the platform, get on that train!” urged Kietzmann.
The workshops also communicated other upcoming career related activities to the students, such as the School’s mentoring programme, and were the first step towards preparation for the 2009 JMS Future Indaba.
Snyders and JMS colleague Khaya Thonjeni also represented the School at the 2009 Inkanyezi working world extravaganza in PE 11 – 14 March. Thousands of scholars streamed through the Feather Market Centre and met with the JMS team to hear about pursuing studies in the field of journalism and media studies.
This career focus continues this week as Snyders and Thonjeni present about JMS to Grahamstown scholars on 19 March at the annual DSG careers day.
