As is traditional, JMS staff gathered for a farewell tea and cake party this morning (29 May) to say goodbye to Danika Marquis. She was a temporary radio lecturer and after seven years of studying journalism and media studies and many hours of radio work at Rhodes.
Jeanne du Toit, head of the JMS radio section, said: “It is a great loss to the department that she is leaving. She is a true intellectual and a natural teacher, but it is also important for her to leave and gain more experience.”
Danika came to Grahamstown in 2003 to do her first year at Rhodes. From the first she worked extremely hard. She got involved in Cue radio in 2005 as a tech watch and tutor. In 2007 she moved from being a teaching assistant and became a temporary lecturer.
She confesses that she worked so much that she never had enough time for her Kung Fu. She is leaving Grahamstown for Cape Town.
