Prof Guy Berger has been made co-chairperson of a think tank dubbed the “Future Group” set up in June by the Brussells-based International Federation of Journalists. The ten-person team was created on the mandate of the executive committee of the IFJ, a body which indirectly represents some 600 000 media staffers across 120 countries.
The team is compiling a report for the IFJ’s 2010 congress about the changing landscape of journalism and the future of organising media practitioners. Berger’s co-chair is Belgian editor Jean-Paul Marthoz, and the other people on the team include journalism union leaders and academics from Canada, the UK, Australia, Brazil, Spain and Indonesia.
