FJP 2009 participants…,correction, reporters … are here

Future Journalist Programme student participants hardly waited a minute after arriving in Grahamstown this week. They got stuck into hands-on reporting the festival.

Moagisi Letlhaku, FJP coordinator said, “It’s their first chance to practice reporting in this summer school. Now it’s their chance to be journalists in the real world.”

FJP is one of the flagship projects under Highway Africa in the JMS. This programme entails training journalism and media students from South African j-schools in a new media practical component of their study.

The group kicked off with a press briefing from the festival CEO, Tony Lankester, and asked questions about the history, operations and planning of the event.

Sourced from 8 journalism tertiary institutions around South Africa, this group includes three exchange students from West Africa (Tanzania, Senegal and Ghana)

The students arrived on the 30 of June and will stay until the end of the festival. They’re reporting the festival on their blog at www.fjp08.wordpress.com and www.zajournalist.blogspot.com. You can follow their tweets on www.twitter.com.fjptweets.
