JMS alumnus, music journalist and radio producer, Rob Boffard has released his debut album entitled 'African'.
Boffard - who is based in London - wrote, recorded, arranged and mixed the entire hip-hop album himself. It was released in April on his own label - Dysfunctional Records. "My career is as a music journalist and radio producer, but I've always been involved in making hip-hop music - even while I was studying at Rhodes University. I have worked on plenty of music projects before, but I had to prove to myself that I could make a coherent, rocking album," said Boffard.
Boffard called the album 'African' because the goal of the album was to take stories and themes that aren't traditionally African and put them in an African context. "Beyond the actual consideration of the themes, I want people hearing this album to be blown away. I want to leave a trail of 'snapped necks', 'blown eardrums' and 'torched vocal chords'. I made the album for people who dig good rap music. Full stop!"
Boffard graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism in 2006.
