Spring festival blossoms at Rhodes

The Rhodes Department of Music will be hosting the 4th International Spring Festival at the Beethoven Room, Music Department, from Friday 12 to Monday 15 August.

The department will host the Odeion string quartet, resident at the University of the Free State (UFS), for the second time. This acclaimed quartet will present a feast of chamber music, offering Rhodes students the opportunity to perform with them, to participate in public masterclasses, and to attend concerts.

The Department of Music is delighted to present Professor Les Tung, currently Head of Department and keyboard expert at Kalamazoo College, USA. Prof Tung is visiting several South African Universities over the course of the next few months.

Prof Tung will give masterclasses, perform a solo recital and give a lecture demonstration on the Fortepiano, an instrument for which his expertise has gained international recognition. He will be joined by Prof John Coulter from University of the Free State, who will be bringing a Fortepiano to the Music Department for the festival.
