Presenter: Prof Martin Wittenberg
Prof Martin Wittenberg is a Professor of Economics at the University of Cape Town and is Director of DataFirst, a unit specialising in the dissemination and preservation of data from African socioeconomic surveys. Prof Wittenberg has held academic positions at the Universities of Natal, the Witwatersrand and Cape Town, and has held visiting professorships at Princeton and Yale Universities. He is an accomplished researcher and an inspirational teacher whose work ranges from the most technical engagement with survey data to contributions within the political economy tradition. Through DataFirst, Prof Wittenberg has developed a community of practice that includes researchers in universities and government, and has developed new benchmarks for data management and quantitative research. He has been an active supporter of NALSU since its inception, and the Head of NALSU serves on the DataFirst External Advisory Board.
