The Neil Aggett Labour Studies Unit (NALSU) team congratulates Ms. Siviwe Mhlana on the award of her MA with distinction (cum laude) in Social Policy and Labour Studies. Siviwe was honoured in this week’s virtual graduation ceremony at Rhodes University for her thesis on ‘The Changing Nature of Work: Understanding Precarity and the Gendered Individualisation of Risk in Post-Apartheid South Africa’.

Siviwe was the recipient of a full NALSU bursary for her Master’s research and quickly established herself as a dedicated and passionate scholar of labour studies. She was supervised by NALSU’s Professor Mike Rogan, and registered in the university’s Institute of Social and Economic Research,  where NALSU was then located. Now based at the University of the Witwatersrand’s Southern Centre for Inequality Studies, Siviwe continues to collaborate with the NALSU team on a number of research projects. Well done Siviwe! We are all proud of your accomplishment and wish you the best on your next steps.
