This course examines how we might think about the relations between ourselves, other citizens, and those outside our political community. What is our responsibility to fellow citizens? To foreigners? Should we think of distributive justice as national or global? How much respect should we give to the principle of state sovereignty? Should people have the freedom to move across national borders? In trying to answer these questions, we will read texts from both African and Western traditions of political thought.
