This course is ‘young person centred’ and seeks to explore meanings young people in South Africa and elsewhere attach to gender as a source of social identification and a dimension of power and inequality. It looks critically at ‘gender’ as a concept for understanding social identity and social differentiation between and within young males and females in different social and material contexts.
