The herbarium works closely with the Albany Museum education programme and regularly receives school groups for a variety of lessons depending on schools requirements and time constraints. The overall themes of the lessons are the role and value of the herbarium in understanding and conserving biodiversity. In addition to the visitor education programme the herbarium and the Rhodes University Department of Anthropology have a more formalised programme that fills several curriculum requirements at local schools.
