President, Katlego Mphahlele

 

With an outstanding margin of 13 women as to 2 men in the 2020 Student Representative Councillors of Rhodes University, Katlego Sharon Mphahlele, a 23-year-old Pharmacy student from Limpopo in a village called Ga-Mphahlele (Mamaolo), took up the mantle of 2020 SRC president. An academic product of Mamaolo primary school and SJ Van Der Merwe Technical High School, she enrolled at Rhodes University in 2015 pursuing her studies towards Bachelor of pharmacy degree which she obtained in 2018. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Pharmacy degree. She says that it feels great and exciting to see that the student body of Rhodes has confidence in her to represent them in the highest decision-making structures of student governance. Considering the probable pressure that comes with her position, Katlego shares that it feels challenging because she has to carry the mandate of the students which will not come in easy. Outlining her vision, she says that the main strategy for her time in the presidency position is to endure that the objectives outlined in the SRC 2020 manifestos come to pass. She believes this will be made possible through innovation and implementation.
