Xiletelo Mabasa is a Master's student with the Rhodes University School of Journalism and Media Studies. Xiletelo completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Johannesburg and came to Rhodes University in 2018 to complete her Honours degree in Journalism and Media Studies. She has been involved in student media since yer second year of university at UJ where she launched an independent news site, The Open Journal, alongside fellow classmates. Mabasa did not slow down during her postgraduate studies taking up the position of Politics Editor at The Oppidan Press. The student leader has also lent her voice to Rhodes' student radio station, RMR as a presenter and newsreader. She takes pride in her work as the Media Councillor and has taken the opportunity to use the position to uplift student media and ensured to work closely with them during her term of office.
