Attended a meeting with Mr. Eric Ofei (Student Development and Support Officer) informing me of the resignation of former International Affairs Councillor Austin Mtole Ndyetabula due to personal reasons. Mr. Ofei offered me the vacant position in accordance with Article 3.4 of the Constitution of the Students.

  1. Attended a follow up meeting with Mr. Ofei to inform him of my acceptance of SRC International Affairs Councillor 2018.  Therefore, 20 July 2018 was my first official day of International Affairs Councillor 2018. Rhodes University Independent Electoral Board (IEB) released statement to this effect.
  2. Mr. Ofei updated my email; provided me with important SRC councillor’s contact details (Nhlakanipho Mahlangu SRC President 2018 and Kuda Chingono SRC Vice-President 2018 (VP)); directed me to contact Nondumiso Msezane SRC Secretary General 2018 (SG) regarding handover process; instructed me to purchase uniform (Blazer; Shirt; Skirt; Tie) in liaison with Lukhanyo Tshongweni SRC Treasurer General 2018 (TG); introduced me to SRC staff members and Division of Student Affairs (DSA) staff members.

  2. Attended Trading live at Rhodes University Community Engagement Office (RUCE) for the Ntiska Tour of Rhodes University (RU) organised by Unathi Mabukane SRC Community Engagement Councillor 2018 (CE). Tour was unsuccessful due to Ntsika lacking transport to arrive at Rhodes University.

  1. Attended meeting with Head of International Office named Ms. Orla Quinlan and Mr. Dingaan Booi.
  • Proposed the idea of hosting Heritage Day (Monday 24 September). Both Ms. Quinlan and Mr. Booi were supportive of idea since the event was not held last year. Ms. Quinlan offered her advice on the do’s and don’t’s in the planning of the event.
  • Quinlan informed me of issues relating to VISA’s and Zimbabwean Students.
  • Medical Aid as a VISA requirement and not a University requirement.

  • Discussion held regarding International Day of University Sport event; discussed program; discussed which sports to be included; made changes to program/proposal.
  • Booi informed me that I have an International Affairs Team. However, he explained that former International Affairs Councillor (Austin Mtole Ndyetabula) did not make use of the team. I decided that I would only call on their services when necessary.
