Two members of our student body have reached out to the SRC for assistance in pursuing action against incidences of GBV involving another student. The SRC, through the Activism & Transformation Councillor, Tanaka Makaure, is actively assisting the students through the process. Ms. Makaure is working alongside two other members of the council.

Due to the sensitive nature of this matter and out of respect for the privacy of the students that have been affected by this incident, we will not reveal further details of the matter.

Any students who may have been triggered by messages of this incident circulating on social media are encouraged to approach the counselling centre for support. To contact the counselling centre, please email counsellingcentre@ru.ac.za or call 046 603 7070.

We would like to encourage anyone who has encountered any incidences of discrimination, violence, or harassment to lay a complaint with the anti-harassment officer. To do so, please email z.mkhize@ru.ac.za  or call  046 603 8187.

To ensure that more students become familiar with the process of laying a complaint, we will be releasing helpful interactive guides on all our social media platforms.
