It is with sadness that we have learnt of the passing away in Perth, Australia on 30th July 2014 of Roydon Xavier Parkin (1940) just prior to his 92nd birthday.

Roy, who followed in the footsteps of his father Xavier Llewellyn Parkin (1914), resided in Botha House, played first team cricket, tennis and golf, and graduated with a B.A. degree which he had condensed into 2 1/2 years in order to join the SAAF/RAF.  His son Derek (1970) and daughter Beverley (1971) are third generation graduates.

Roy served in Italy until the end of WWII hostilities after which he qualified as a lawyer and joined the legal firm Padgen and Christian where he became Managing Partner and Chairman of the Board. He held numerous Company Directorships and was also elected to the Rhodes University Council and sat on their Board of Governors.

Roy was a strong family man and he and his wife Elaine, a Grahamstown girl, emigrated to Perth in 1987 to be near their 3 children and their families. He continued to practice law in Perth for a further 10 years before retiring at 75.

He is survived by Elaine and their extended family.
