Tim van Niekerk (MA) joined the Dictionary Unit for South African English (DSAE) in 2000 as part of the editorial team of the South African Concise Oxford Dictionary (2002). Subsequently he moved to Cambridge, England where he worked for an electronic publishing company. He returned to the DSAE in 2004 and was one of the editors of the Oxford South African Concise Dictionary (2010). He manages the Unit’s historical dictionary project, the online Dictionary of South African English, and was appointed Director in 2018.
