Transnet has been awarded the overall winner within the Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) sector and received the National Skills Authority Silver Award for Best Practice in Skills Development for 2017/18. This was at an awards and conference event hosted by the National Skills Authority in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Training on the 14th and 15th of March 2019.
Transnet Foundation’s Silver Award for Best Practice in Skills Development is a result of a Youth Development Programme partnership between the foundation, Kingswood College and Rhodes University. Diana Hornby, Community Engagement Director at Rhodes University, congratulated Vivian Moila who is the Senior Manager: Education at the Transnet Foundation for leading this programme with distinction. The programme is now in its 6th year. Hornby also commended Kingswood College for the amazing environment they have created to realise the potential of the young people involved in the programme. Moila expressed gratitude to all involved for making the programme work. She said the Foundation would not have been able to do such incredible work without its partner stakeholders.
Transnet entered the 2017/18 Skills Development Awards within the Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) sector. The awards and conference were hosted by the National Skills Authority in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Training on the 14th and 15th of March 2019.
The objectives of the awards were:
- To celebrate excellence by recognizing best skills development implementers and National Skills Fund (NSF) Funded projects in various categories.
- To provide extensive and national coverage/exposure for best skills development practices through print and electronic media.
- To recognise work placement opportunities created through the various learning programmes i.e. artisan development, FET graduate placement, universities graduate placement, learnerships and internships.
- To encourage maximum use of workplace-based skills development initiatives.
- To mobilise business, governments, community and providers to ensure the realization of the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS) III goals.
The awards selection process included evidence collection and confirmation, and the results audited by the Auditor General of South Africa.
