JMS alumnus wins big at Namibia Media Awards

JMS alumnus, Marita van Rooyen received the coveted 'Journalist of the Year' award, two first prizes and a third prize for print media at the 2010 Namibia Media Awards.

She was awarded first prize in the Environmental and Tourism category for 'Bitten by the tourism bug', an article about young people inspired by their jobs in tourism which was published in Travel News Namibia. She also won first prize in the sports-writing category for 'Hot, hard and awesome', an article on adventure running published in Travel News Namibia and third place in feature writing for 'Images of an ancient wonderland', an article on Skeleton Coast Safaris published in Air Namibia’s in-flight magazine, Flamingo.

Winners received cash prizes ranging from N$500 to N$5 000.

Marita completed her Honours Degree at the School in 2006.
