Manwadu Lufuno Charity

Lufuno Manwadu

Manwadu Lufuno Charity is a 20-year-old from Limpopo (Thohoyandou). She is a graduate from the University of Venda, where she gained a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies degree, majoring in English. She also mentored at the university for a year.

She says she joined the Class of 2018 of the Postgraduate Diploma in Media Management (popularly known at Rhodes University as the PDMM) after learning that Rhodes University produced the best media practitioners in Africa.

She believes that through hard work and dedication, the Sol Plaatje Institute (SPI) for Media Leadership which offers the PDMM will mould her into one of the best media managers, and believes that the SPI has already started to equip her with the skills that she needs to succeed in her career by giving her a broader view of the media management world.

She believes in independence and that women can work hard on their own. This makes her different from other girls of her age who seem to rely on men for wealth and status. She  says she works hard because she doesn't want to give anyone an opportunity to say she wouldn't have been successful  if it was not for them.

She regards her mother, Mrs Manwadu Nthuseni, as her role model because her mom took care of her and other siblings ever since the passing of their father, Dr L.R Manwadu. She says her mother is an example of an independent woman. Not only does Lufuno want to bring about positive change in the media industry, but she says she wants to be a good example to her younger siblings because she is the first born in the family.
