The SRC notes the recent developments in measures being taken by the government to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus. We would like to emphasize that it is our basic civic duty to abide by all directives in that statement.

We call upon our fellow students to take up a secondary duty; a duty that arises from our proximity to knowledge due to us being tertiary students. Since we have access to information, we should help convey the right message to our communities, in particular, the previously disenfranchised communities. A simple call to caution them about the virus; what it is, how it gets transmitted and how it can be prevented. We must never underestimate our power to influence our society.

It is our collective responsibility to ensure the health and safety of ourselves and our communities. May we stay safe until our next encounter. Let us unite and fight the virus together.
