NRF SOUTH AFRICA / INDIA JOINT SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH COLLABORATION

10 December 2017, two BioBRU lab members, Laura Dingle and William Samson, embarked on a research visit to the Indian state of West Bengal. Laura and William, who are currently both PhD candidates at Rhodes University, got the opportunity to present their research to groups of MSc and PhD students at two renowned research institutions in the area, namely the Ballygunge Science College, University of Calcutta, and the University of Kalyani.

The intention of the research visit was to honour and strengthen collaborative ties between BioBRU and Prof. Arindam Bhattachryya, who has been working with BioBRU for the past 5 years. 

Both Laura and William were able to engage with their hosts and audiences on various topics, not only those directly related to their research projects, and in the process learned a great deal as well.

After presenting their work, the South African visitors were given a tour of the laboratories and research facilities at Ballygunge Science College and at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of Kalyani. The two were then treated to a full tour of Kolkata, including major attractions like a boat ride on the Ganges River, the Rabindra Bharati Museum, and many historic temple
