Arthur Scholtz

Arthur started working at the Uitenhage mass rearing facility in 2015. His duties and responsibilities include undertaking yard maintenance, cutting the grass in the nursery and watering and weeding of plants. He also helps with the release of biological control agents in the field, as well as collection of fresh plant material in the field.

 

 

 

Byron Soetland

Byron helps Ruth with the strategic planning of field trips and releases. He has been part of the team since 2015. His main duties are the sorting of dead plant material in the crates, and collection of fresh material from the field. He also does the daily collection and removal of the predatory beetle (Chilocorus nigrita). Weeding, watering and cutting grass are also part of his job.

 

 

 

Carmen Peters

Carmen assists with some administrative work at the Uitenhage Mass Rearing Facility, as well as helping with other tasks such as watering, weeding, and field collections. She also helps with the release of biological control agents in the field and is responsible for the cleaning of the storeroom, kitchen and bathrooms.

 

 

 

Gugulethu Raymond Mkile

Gugulethu has been working at the Uitenhage Mass Rearing Facility since 2015. He helps with maintenance of the facility, including fixing the nets, tunnel doors, replacing windows that are broken, paint the office buildings. He also helps with the release of biological control agents, as well as collecting fresh plant material, and weeding and watering of plants in the tunnels.

 

 

 

Karin Goliath

There are various tasks that Karin helps with at the Uitenhage Mass Rearing facility. These include the release of biological control agents in the field; sorting dead plant materials tunnels; weeding and watering of plants; collection of fresh plant material to replace dried material in tunnels. She also ensures that the storeroom, kitchen and bathrooms are kept clean.

 

 

 

Lubabalo Malinga

Lubabalo has been part of the Uitenhage team since 2015. His main tasks are to sort dead plant materials in crates in mass rearing tunnels that have agents on it. He also collects fresh plant material in the field which is then placed into crates in the tunnels. He helps with daily collection of the predatory beetle (Chilocorus nigrita) which preys on the cochineal which is mass-reared. Weeding and watering plants is also part of his job as well as assisting with the release of biological control agents in the field.

 

 

 

Ronel Roman

Ronel started working with the Uitenhage Mass Rearing team in 2017. She helps with the release of biological control agents in the field, as well as colleting of fresh plant material to replace the dead material in the tunnels. Ronel is part of the team that collects and removes the predatory beetle, Chilocorus nigrita, that feeds on the cochineal. She is also responsible for cleaning the storeroom, kitchens and bathrooms.
