Landile Booi

Landile has been working at the Waainek Mass Rearing Facility since 2014. His main duties include the weekly clearing of the CBC’s quarantine facility and culturing the submerged Brazilian waterweed (Egeria densa). He also helps with insect collections and collections of Barbados gooseberry (Pereskia aculeate) to maintain a culture of Pereskia stem-wilters (Catorhintha schaffneri) which have been released as a bioloigcal contorl agent.




Lulama Poni

Lulama is one of the longest standing members of the Sisonke team and has been working at Waainek since 2009. He helps with the collection of insects, as well as fertilizing the pools, as well as record keeping and some administrative work. 




Lunga Ngeju

Lunga’s main tasks at the Waainek Mass rearing facility include the weeding and cleaning of the tunnels which house the pools with the various biological control agents. He also helps with the collection of insects and has been part of the team since 2014.




Mlamli Mbangi

Mlamli helps with field collections of plants for the mass rearing of insects. He has been part of the Waainek team since 2015. He is also responsible for fertilizing the pools as well as spraying of insecticide when necessary, to maintin insect free plants for when experiments are undertaken. He also helps with general maintance work.



Siya Ntamo

Siya started working with the team in 2012. His main duties are the collection and packaging of insects, after which they are sent to landowners for release. He also helps with culturing plants, checking plant health and watering, as well as cleaning the tunnels and containers. 




Vusumzi Sukula (Suks)

Vusumzi (Suks) has been part of the Waainek team since 2015. His main task is as a driver. He is responsible for transporting staff members when field collections take place and when equipment needs to be transported, or any other transport is needed. He also helps with general maintenance.




Vuyani Ntyinkala (Majeke)

Vuyani (Majeke) has a number of duties including assisting with the mass rearing of the Pereskia stem-wilter, (Catorhintha schaffneri) which has been released on the invasive alien, Perskia (Pereskia aculeate). He has been part of the team since 2014. He also takes care of the African tulip tree (Spathodea campanulata) culture which is grown to undertaken host specificity testing in quarantine for potential biological control gents. Majeke also helps with the collection of insects and the general cleaning of equipment and tunnels.
