Getrude completed her BSc (Hons) degree at the University of Venda in 2016. Her research focused on diatoms as screening tools and assessed the trophic status of water in the Xikundu Weir, Luvuvhu River in the Vhembe District, Limpopo Province. She further completed her MSc at Rhodes University, Centre for Biological Control (CBC) in 2020. Her MSc focused on assessing invasive alien aquatic plants species’ phytoremediation effects on environmental and biological variables in the Swartkops River system. Getrude is currently working as a junior researcher at the CBC, running and assisting in various projects and field work.

Research interest: Freshwater ecology, Biological control, Conservation, Aquatic entomology
