March rejecting xenophobia and all other forms of intolerances and chauvinistic behaviours.

March rejecting xenophobia and all other forms of intolerances and chauvinistic behaviours.

Over the past fortnight our country has witnessed terrible violence perpetrated against fellow human beings from other parts of the continent and

world. This violence is a frontal attack on the values enshrined in our Constitution. This is the time for us to publicly and unequivocally distance our community from the horrendous events of the past two weeks and affirm our commitment to living in peace with fellow human beings from other parts of the world. The Rhodes University Vice-Chancellor Dr Sizwe Mabizela invites the entire University community to join him in a peaceful demonstration to show

the University's objection to the xenophobic violence recently witnessed in South Africa.

The march will take place at 1pm on Friday April 24th

We will proceed from the front of the Rhodes University Administration building. At City Hall, we will invite the local government representatives to join us on the march to show their commitment against xenophobia.

Participation from all local individuals, institutions, schools, faith-based groups, civil society groups is very much welcomed so please spread the word with your local connections and invite them to join us.

All participants are invited to carry flags/ symbols of mourning/the names of recently deceased.

Dr Sizwe Mabizela

Vice-Chancellor
