Types & Costs

Rhodes University accepts applications from students who come from one of our partner Universities. If your University or College has an exchange agreement with Rhodes, please consult with your international office regarding the application and costs of coming to Rhodes University on exchange.

Kindly take note that the information on this website is meant only as a guideline. Only invoices issued by the Rhodes University International Office may be taken as authoritative when paying fees to Rhodes.

In general, there are three different types of mobility programmes on offer to students coming to Rhodes. The type of mobility programme you will participate in at Rhodes  University, depends on the type of agreement your University has with Rhodes.

Rhodes University gives preference to students that come from one of our partner Universities for purposes of exchange each year. If your University does NOT have an exchange agreement with Rhodes, you will need to come as a Study Abroad student. Applications from study abroad students will be considered after all our partner institutions have submitted their student’s applications.

Please note the following:

  • Credit-bearing semester abroad students arriving in Semester 2 (July-November) will be expected to pay an Orientation Fee. The exact amount will be noted in the invitation communication.
  • There are additional costs that will be incurred by signing up for classes, sports clubs and University societies.
  • The fees mentioned in this section is subject to change on an annual basis.
  • Also note that all credit-bearing semester abroad students are housed in University residences which includes 3 meals a day.

South Africa uses Rands (ZAR). The conversion rate fluctuates regularly so it is best to consult your financial institutions for current infromation.
