Ladies from Adelaide Tambo House, fondly known as Adelaidies, are well-rounded individuals who take their academics seriously as well as actively partaking in sporting, cultural and social events. Adelaidies enjoy social inter-res sports as these are more social than competitive and always prove to be fun-filled events that offer great opportunities to build friendships. We also place a focus on community engagement and offer opportunities for everyone to do their bit for society from visiting an old age home on Sundays to collecting stationary for the underprivileged. Adelaide Tambo House is a young residence; having only taken up its name in 2008. Being representatives for Adelaide Tambo House we live by Adelaide Tambo’s message that “Every woman is a powerful being, a resource for the nation and motivating force. Don’t worry about what other people are doing or saying, live to your own integrity. You can achieve anything you set your mind to; so set your mind and get on with it.”
Adelaide Tambo House consists of three buildings and an Annexe which are home to 85 students. We are half-way up ‘the hill’ and as such campus is a short walk away but this has the advantage of the “going-home” feeling after a long day down campus. Our buildings overlook the astro turf as well as being less than two hundred metres from Sports Bar, The Health Suite, soccer fields, tennis courts and the Africa Media Matrix. Our buildings surround our own quad which is perfect for private tanning on hot days, sisterly bonding as well as being the perfect location for res braais. We have two common rooms which are situated in the main house; both have televisions (with DSTV) while the upper common room has the res printer and is perfect for games of 30 Seconds (Our speciality); while the lower common room has a pool table, microwave and fridge and opens out to our braai area serving as the perfect entertainment area. All the buildings have their own fridges, washing machine and tumble dryer.
Aside from our perfect location it is the spirit of our Adelaidies that makes Adelaide Tambo House the unique and special residence that it is.
