Twizza Rhodes Open Tournament– the pride and joy of Squash at Rhodes University

Games kick off at approximately 18:15 on Friday evening. 

Rhodes University Squash Club is set to host the highlight of their squash year this weekend from Friday 17 April to Sunday 19 April. Fifty-Four players are set to fight it out on the courts. Gary Wheadon (SA 7) will be back to defend his title. The Open is an official Eastern Province and Squash South Africa points ranking tournament.

Top National and local players will compete for the title and prize money of R11 500, sponsored by Twizza. There is also a new doubles section with 6 doubles pairings. The women’s section has more than doubled from 2014.

Gary Wheadon (SA number 7), Adrian Hansen (SA number 10) in the men’s section and Jacqui Ryder (SA number 9) and Lizelle Goosen (SA number 7) in the women’s section are the National Players who are set to compete. Local EP players include Jason Le Roux (EP number 4), Jarryd Terblanche (EP number 5), Dewald van Nikerk (EP number 8) and Peter Ryder (EP number 10). Goosen won the tournament in 2013 and is no doubt looking to take the title this year.

The tournament is taking place at the Alec Mullins Squash Courts and everyone is invited to come and watch what is set to be a very exciting weekend of squash, Rhodes Squash Chairperson Paul Sebeikin says “I hope we get lots of support to go with what will surely be a great atmosphere at the Alec Mullins Squash Courts!”

Games kick off at approximately 18:15 on Friday evening.  Saturday’s session begins at 9am until 17:00 with a one hour lunch break.  The Sunday session starts at 9am.  The B Section finals will start at approximately 11am.  The A Section finals will follow at approximately 13:00.
