On Monday the 2nd of March, the first colloquium of PRIMOR took place at Kathu in the Northern Cape. It was attended by a large and diverse team of delegates from our chief sponsor ASSMANG Ltd. The PRIMOR crew of five full-time students presented a series of progress presentations in the morning, which were followed by fruitful discussions with the company delegates on the current progress of our research as well as ideas for future work. Although some nerves were understandably apparent amongst the students presenting, the day went extremely well and the colloquium was a resounding success in pretty much every respect. Below is only a selection of images capturing the day’s events and activities.
The Colloquium was followed by four days in the field whereby some of the students carried out further sampling for their projects. During our field activities, we also had the pleasure and privilege of hosting Prof. B. Rasmussen and Dr J. Muhling from Curtin University and the university of Western Australia respectively, who joined us in sampling selected parts of the Transvaal Supergroup stratigraphy for a series of intended collaborative projects. We look forward to some exciting new results to come out of the work of our colleagues from Down Under!
