2013: Visits and presentations for the promotion of Geosciences at Baitiredi Tech & Com High School, and Galaletsang Science High School, Mothibistad, Northern Cape Province

During the week 2-6 September 2013, Prof Tsikos run the annual 3rd-year Geology field-trip to the Hotazel manganese mine and Khumani iron-ore mine in the Northern Cape Province. As part of the field activities for the week, Prof Tsikos along with the entire 3rd-year class of 17, visited two schools in the Mothibistad area just outside the town of Kuruman, with the purpose of promoting the geological sciences to local pupils. The visit had been pre-arranged by Mr Thabo Manne, Manager of Stakeholder Relations and Communications for BHP-BILLITON in Hotazel, and involved presentations to grade 12 students at Baitiredi Tech & Com High School, and at Galaletsang Science High School. Below are a few snapshots of these two visits.

It was a sunny and glorious day in every respect for all of us in Mothibistad…

…and it was a true privilege to visit Baitiredi and interact with some wonderful young people
