Mawande Ntantiso
Mawande Ntantiso comes from Mthatha located within the Eastern Cape Province of South. He considers himself an outdoor enthusiast as a result majored in geography and geology. In 2015, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree and went on to complete his Bachelor of Science with Honours in Geology the following year. He investigated the Constrains on the Emplacement of Colesberg sill in the Northern Cape under the supervision of Professor Steve Prevec.
As part of his MSc project, he used a number of observational and analytical techniques such as reflected and transmitted light microscopy; x-ray diffraction (XRD); scanning electron microscopy (SEM); and electron-microprobe (EPMA). He used these techniques in order to study and evaluate the mineralogy and geochemistry of the Neoproterozoic, metamorphosed magnetite-rich Xaudum Iron-Formation in Botswana. The project was conducted in partnership with TSODILO RESOURCES LTD TSX-V – a listed exploration and mineral development company – under the supervision of Professor H. Tsikos. For his project, he re-constructed and modelled the primary depositional environment of the Xaudum iron-formation through its complex metamorphic overprint, and attempted to constrain the redox conditions in the paleo-basin and overall paleoclimatic regime during iron-formation deposition.
Mawande enjoys the outdoors and has great interest in travelling to new places and is an eager fashion and style follower.
MSc Project Title: Mineralogy, geochemistry and origin of the Neoproterozoic Xaudum Iron Formation in Botswana.
